Bearings made of iglidur® A200 are suitable for application in direct contact with foodstuffs. Hence they are the ideal solution for bearing positions in machines for the food industry, medical equipment manufacturing, for small equipment for households, etc. In addition the iglidur® A200 is characterized by its capacity to embed dirt and by its quiet operating behavior. The high abrasion resistance, the insensitivity to dirt and the ability to operate dry enable it to dispense with the otherwise complex casings for lubricated bearings.

Mechanical properties

Maximum recommended surface pressure represents a mechanical material parameter. Tribological conclusions cannot be drawn from it. With increasing temperatures, the compressive strength of iglidur® A200 bearings decreases. Fig. 02 clarifies this connection.

Figure 03 shows the elastic deformation of iglidur® A200 with radial loads. Under the maximum recommended surface pressure of 18 MPa, the deformation amounts to less than 2%. A plastic deformation is negligible up to this radial load. It is however also dependent on the period of exposure.

Maximum surface speed

m/s Rotating Oscillating Linear
Constant 0,8 0,6 2
Short-term 1,5 1,1 3

Permitted surface speeds

iglidur® A200 is developed for low surface speeds. Maximum speeds up to 0.8 m/s (rotating) and 3.5 m/s (linear) respectively are permitted for continuous application in dry operation. These specified values state the limits to which the long-term permitted temperature rises due to frictional heat. In practice these limit values are not always reached due to interactions.

Figure 8.3: Maximum recommended surface pressure dependent on the temperature

Temperatures

The short-term permitted maximum temperature is + 170°C. With increasing temperatures, the compressive strength of iglidur® A200 plain bearings decreases. Fig. 02 clarifies this connection. The temperatures prevailing in the bearing system also have an influence on the bearing wear. An additional securing is recommended at temperatures higher than +50°C.

Shaft materials

The Fig. 06 and 07 display the results of tests with different shaft materials conducted with plain bearings made of iglidur® A200. In swivelling applications below a load of p = 2 MPa, the wear of iglidur® A200 plain bearings is higher than in rotating applications with equal load. Here, the shaft made of St37 is the positive exception.

Electrical properties

Specific forward resistance > 1013 Ωcm
Surface resistance > 1012 Ω

Chemical resistance

iglidur® A200 bearings have a good resistance to cleaning agents, fats, oils, alkalis and weak acids.

The humidity absorption of iglidur® A200 bearings amounts to about 1,5% in standard climatic conditions. The saturation limit in water is 7,6%. This should be considered according to application conditions.

Radioactive rays

iglidur® A200 bearings are radiation resistant up to a radioactive intensity of 1 x 104 Gy. Higher radiations affect the material and can lead to the loss of important mechanical properties.

UV-resistant

iglidur® A200 bearings are resistant to UV rays.

Vacuum

The iglidur® A200 bearings can be used in vacuum only restrictedly.

Electrical properties

iglidur® A200 bearings are electrically insulating.

Installation tolerances

iglidur® A200 plain bearings are standard bearings for shafts with h-tolerance (recommended minimum s h9).
The bearings are designed for press-fit in a housing with h7 tolerance. After the installation in a housing with nominal diameter, the inner diameter of the bearing automatically adjusts to the D11 tolerance. In certain dimensions the tolerance in dependence on the wall thickness deviates from this (See delivery program )
