Intelligent plant monitoring with the Fanuc FIELD system and smart plastics

To evaluate data from machines and systems, FANUC, an international robot manufacturer, offers its "FIELD system" open industrial IoT platform. The system uses local network topology to connect production machines from all manufacturers, allowing comprehensive data analysis for the entire process chain. This infrastructure uses apps from FANUC and third-party suppliers. The "smart plastics - i.Cee" app enables maintenance personnel to monitor the condition of their smart plastics components, such as energy chains and cables, and plan maintenance work in advance in the FIELD system.

How does the predictive maintenance work?

Only the intelligent networking of the individual components creates a solid basis for predictive maintenance concepts. At igus, everything related to predictive maintenance is summarised under the term i.Cee ("i see ahead").

The central element is the i.Cee software. This software, combined with sensors on the energy chain, the plain bearing or a linear carriage, transform stock products into smart products. This upgrade enables you to determine the maximum service life of your igus product and the i.Cee system specifies the perfect time for servicing. Algorithms adjust the service life and service time according to usage. With the software provided by us, a few sensors and the new i.Cee: plus II communication module, standard products can be turned into smart cable carriers or intelligent plain bearings in no time at all.
